North Mall Office Building

While at YGH Architecture, Miles was Project Architect on this office building that became the State’s pilot project for sustainability. Located on the Capitol Mall in Salem, the North Mall Office Building was the first state building designed and constructed in accordance with the State of Oregon mandate on Sustainability. Using U.S. Green Building Council LEED New Construction guidelines, the project established state-wide energy-efficiency and environmental standards for future construction.

The building is designed to address its context with varying scales that respond to and engage the surrounding buildings and pedestrian traffic. It is organized in three distinct zones that house the Water Bureau, Parks and Recreation and Oregon Housing and Community Services, and is connected by a central atrium with natural lighting and ventilation.
